Library Computer Usage Policies
1. Library computers are available to anyone on a first come, first served basis. Patrons do not need to sign up to use these computers, and there are no usage time limits. Exceptions to this general policy will be made when the library is especially busy and/or certain workstations contain specialized software. In such instances, usage priority will be given to SBTS students, faculty, and staff. Be prepared to show your Shield Card or prove affiliation with SBTS by logging into eCampus or your SBTS email account in such circumstances. If there is a wait for computing resources, patrons using computers for recreational purposes (such as playing games, updating FaceBook, chatting, etc.) will be asked to relinquish the computer. If a computer has specialized software installed (such as BibleWorks or Rosetta Stone), patrons not using this software may be asked to re-locate to a general purpose computer when another patron is waiting to use specialized applications. SBTS students, faculty, and staff will have priority to use specialized applications in the library.
2. Library computer users are expected to foster a quiet, academic environment in the library. Patrons who use the audio features of a computer are required to wear headphones so that other patrons are not disrupted by noise. A limited number of headphones are available for check-out in the music library.
3. Library computer users are expected to respect copyright and intellectual property rights. To check if a certain usage complies with applicable laws, see the Fair Usage Checklist and the official copyright website (http://www.copyright.gov/title17/).
4. The Library does not supply computer equipment to patrons. USB drives can be purchased at 5th & Broadway for use in the library.
5. The Library is not responsible for unattended belongings left at computer workstations.
6. Patrons are NOT permitted to load any software, plug-ins, scripts, or other forms of executable software on library computers. If you need to use an application not already installed on a library computer, please contact technical support.
7. The Library is not responsible for patrons’ files. All files stored on a local machine will be deleted over-night. The Library makes no guarantees about the reliability of its computers. In the event of a computer crash or application that quits responding, the Library is not responsible for lost data or work. Be sure to save your work often to your own media device. The Library cannot recover work you lose as a result of computer failure.
8. All Library patrons are expected to abide by the Seminary’s Computing Policies (http://www.sbts.edu/services/campus-technology/policies/) as well as the above Library policies. Failure to abide by these policies may result in loss of computer privileges.
