Binding Dissertations and Theses

Upon completion of the writing and oral defense of a dissertation (Ph.D., Ed.D., D.M.A.), thesis (Th.M., M.C.M.) or ministry project (D.Miss., D.Min., D.Ed.Min., D.M.M.), each student must submit a specific number of copies to his or her respective school. This is done only after the dissertation, thesis, or project has been approved by the Committee of Instruction. Once it is approved, the student must fill out the appropriate submission form (see below) and submit the total number of printed copies (each with an Approval Sheet originally signed by the Committee of Instruction) along with the submission form.

A number of instructions are included in the submission form to guide the student who is ready to complete this final step in the academic process. As explained in each submission form, fees for final processing of the dissertation, thesis, or project will be debited from the student’s seminary account within two months of the date of submission, and the seminary will collect those fees from the student in the usual fashion.

Once the student completes the submission, each school forwards their student’s copies (plus each student’s submission form) to the library for collation, microfilming, and binding. The information provided by the student on the submission form helps the library expedite the final processing of each copy of the dissertation, thesis, and project. It takes the library from two to four months to process the dissertation, thesis, or project from the time that it is delivered to the library by the student’s school. Delays will occur if information provided by the student is not correct, or if problems with the copies submitted are detected during the library’s quality checks. Each student should take the time to evaluate each copy submitted carefully according to the instructions provided on the submission form; this will allow the library staff to complete their work and supply bound copies to each party expeditiously, thus bringing each student’s academic program to a speedy conclusion.
